ABOUT KAYA SPREAD INTERNATIONAL

History of Kaya Spread International (Former Sing Kee Kaya)

BEGINNING

BEGINNING

Since the 1900s, the founder of Sing Kee Kaya, Mr. Chen Gui Da, came from Hainan province in China to Nanyang, now known as Singapore, in search of a better life. In his early years, along with his fellow countrymen, he faced numerous hardships. After many years of perseverance in Nanyang (Singapore), he finally established his own coffee shop around 1920, named Chen Da Ji, located on Pulau Brani island belonged to Singapore. Chen Da Ji Coffee shop bore witness to Singapore's transformation: it operated during the British colonial era and endured through the Japanese invasion. Due to extensive damage from World War II, where bombings destroyed many lands, the coffee shop, with over 50 years in business, had to halt its operations. It awaited reconstruction and resumed business after World War II.

APPROACH

APPROACH

In the 1940s, Chen Da Ji, a Hainan-style coffee shop, sold homemade coffee, tea, and other beverages. It was also renowned for its traditional Hainan kaya. Back then, life was simpler. Customers relished the traditional coffee and paired it with homemade kaya bread and half-boiled eggs—a combination considered a mark of luxury during those times.

INHERITANCE AND DEVELOPMENT

INHERITANCE AND DEVELOPMENT

By the 1980s, the Chen Da Ji Hainan-style coffee shop in Singapore had garnered a rapidly growing reputation. Consequently, we successfully obtained a license from the Ministry of Environment to operate as a licensed food manufacturer. In 1985, Sing Kee Kaya was established. Initially, the factory produced only one flavor: the traditional Hainan kaya. However, to meet market demands and support company expansion, Sing Kee Kaya began manufacturing Nonya kaya, peanut butter, and various other jams. Over the past two decades, Sing Kee Kaya has placed great emphasis on maintaining high-quality standards across its product line. We have been especially stringent with our premium kaya from Sing Kee Kaya House, ensuring it's made with 100% quality natural ingredients and brewed slowly over a precise fire to preserve its original taste and unique flavor, without resorting to preservatives or artificial flavoring.

Sing Kee Kaya's product quality is endorsed and evidenced through certifications by various international standard bodies. In 2003, we became the first kaya manufacturer to be granted the UK Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) certification. This attests to our dedication to quality, as it mandates strict inspections and compliance, from the selection of new ingredients to site maintenance and product manufacturing. In the same year, our brand name “KAYA HOUSE” was recognized by the tourism board as the best kaya in Singapore and chosen to represent Singapore as a premium food and gift item. Sing Kee Kaya products are also showcased and sold at Singapore Changi International Airport, marking our steps toward introducing Sing Kee Kaya to the global market.
